The Secret World is one of the most interesting MMOs to launch during next year, with its structure that does not include any classes and allows players a high degree of customization and it's secret oriented gameplay, and it seems that another defining characteristic of the Funcom MMO will be the absence of actual player death.

Ragnar Tørnquist, who is the leading developer working on The Secret World, told GameSpot that, “There is actually no player death in The Secret World. We don’t want to remove you from the universe, and having you die in a game set in the modern day world that’s supposed to feel realistic would just be kind of odd.”

It seems that those who are taken out during a fight will fall into a state of unconsciousness, moving to a separate game world where they are separate from their bodies but get access to a new way of looking at the universe.

The developer added, “While you’re in the spirit state in The Secret World you might see things that are invisible to players who are conscious. You might have certain missions that might have to be solved inside this spirit world.”

Tørnquist did not offer information on how the mix between the two world will be handled and whether very good players, who just fail at die, will also have a way of accessing the spirit state.

The developers of The Secret World have so far talked about the Templar faction, which prefers to use overwhelming force in order to take out their enemies and does not care about the position of the public.

The developers have also teased that The Secret World will allow players to integrate their game experience with the social networks they are using and offered a little information about a deep crafting system that will be detailed before launch.
