Hardware maker Sony has announced at its Gamescom press conference that it will be introducing new versions of the PlayStation 3 home console during the fall in an effort to attract more players to its device and to promote the upcoming Move motion tracking solution.

Sony is keen to offer more storage space for players who get its home console, mainly because of the extra megabytes that are needed for downloadable PlayStation Network titles and for the wide variety of player created content that a gamer can get for titles like Little Big Planet 2 and ModNation Racers.

Beginning with September 15 Sony will introduce a new bundle that features the PlayStation Move motion tracking peripheral for the price of 359 Euro.

The new package will also include a promo disk designed to show off what the new device can do.

Sony will also launch a new console with a 160 GB capacity hard drive later in the year and it is set to replace the current 120 GB model, more proof that Sony is continuing to push for more storage space for the entertainment center that the PlayStation 3 is marketed as.

At Gamescom last year Sony surprised the world of gaming by announcing the new PlayStation 3 Slim, a new model of the home console which was smaller, consumed less energy and had a better design that the launch model.

The announcement of the Slim and the following price cut on all models helped Sony sell significantly more console that it did before, although figures from the NPD Group suggest that it has not entirely closed the sales gap with the Xbox 360 from Microsoft.

The newly announced hardware upgrade will not likely have the same impact but Sony is planning it in tandem with the introduction of the Move motion tracking system and the planned transition to full stereoscopic three dimensional gaming, which is also planned for this fall.
