A recent interview with Ray Maguire, senior vice president at Sony Computer Entertainment United Kingdom, revealed that the company was not expecting that PlayStation Move would have big day one sales, but that would become a sleeper hit as people start talking about it.

Maguire told Eurogamer that Move will have the same route as the EyeToy in terms of sales performance.

He explained that, “Move is a natural extension in the same way as we brought EyeToy to PS2,” Sony Computer Entertainment senior vice president Ray Maguire told Eurogamer at the Edinburgh Interactive Festival yesterday.

“Exactly as with EyeToy in the PS2 days, it's a product that needs to be sampled. You need to get your hands on it. You need to understand it. You need to try it.

“Am I expecting a massive day one? Not particularly. We didn't with EyeToy, either. It went on to be massively successful.

“As people saw the value when they tried it they told their friends. Their friends bought it. They told their friends. Word of mouth grew the marketplace. That's what I expect from Move as well.”

The peripheral seems to have impressed that press, as recently it won the best hardware accessories award that this year's edition of Gamescom in Köln, Germany.

PlayStation Move will be launched in in September in various bundles. The basic Move controller will be priced at 50 dollars, while the starter pack that also includes the PlayStation Eye and Sports Champions for 100 dollars. The navigation controller will go on sale for 30 dollars.

Move will be supported by many titles in the next six months, ranging from the more family friendly Little Big Planet and Sorcery to the more hardcore oriented, SOCOM 4 and Killzone 3. Sony is promising that by the end of March 2011 there will be 20 games compatible with the PlayStation Move.
