Leaked images but few known details

Z780 is the name of the latest unannounced but leaked Sony Ericsson mobile phone. The new handset seems to be the successor of Z770, which didn't even get the chance to be released all around the world, as it was first unveiled only two months ago, during MWC 2008.

Until now there are only few details regarding Z780, and only an image which doesn't disclose too much about it, except the fact that, like the Z770 model, the new phone comes in a clamshell form factor.

According to the SEMC Blog, the new Z780 packs a 2.2 inch internal display with a 240 x 320 pixels resolution, and it seems to have similar features with Z770. Therefore, we should expect a handset with advanced Internet capabilities that include NetFront 3.4 browser, Magnetic Mouse Pointer for easy navigation, 3.5G connectivity for fast data transfers, email, Instant Messaging and Google Maps. Moreover, Z780 should come with a photo camera of at least 2 Megapixels, Music player, FM radio, TrackID, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP and all the other features included in Z770. And, since usually the new phones are more evolved than their predecessors, we can hope for a bigger internal memory (Z770 has only 32MB).

Sure, the above mentioned features are just speculations, as there's nothing official about the Z780, not even its existence. But since until now most of the unofficial and rumored phones turned out to be real in the end, Z780 is almost surely also real.

Europe will probably get the new clamshell as Sony Ericsson Z780i, while the US mobile users will have it under the name of Sony Ericsson Z780a. Of course, we can't say when this will happen, but knowing that the Z770 model has been launched for less than a month, we assume Z780 should come somewhere in the second half of 2008.
