This summer AT&T will bring to the US the new Sony Ericsson Z780, a mid-end phone that was first presented by the Swedish-Japanese company at the end of April. There's nothing official from AT&T regarding the new phone, but we know for sure that it will be released by the largest North American carrier: thanks to the FCC, which recently approved the Z780a (the American version of Z780), we have some images showing the handset with AT&T's logos on it.

Announced together with the G502 model (previously known as "Emelie"), the Z780 continues the line of Z-series clamshell phones that Sony Ericsson already got its fans used to. At least in terms of design, because when it comes to features, the new Z is quite advanced as compared to the other models from this series.

The features packed in Z780 include quad-band GSM (850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz) and tri-band HSDPA (850 / 1900 / 2100 MHz) connectivity, internal GPS, A-GPS, a 2.2 inch internal TFT display with QVGA resolution (240 x 320) and 262K colors, pre-installed Google Maps, NetFront 3.4 browser, push email, Instant Messaging, Music and Video players, Bluetooth 2.0, FM radio, TrackID, Java MIDP 2.0, USB 2.0, a 2 Megapixel photo camera, 35MB of built-in memory and Memory Stick Micro (M2) card support.

Measuring 92 x 49 x 16 mm (when closed) and weighing 100 grams, the Z780 comes with a Li-Ion battery capable of offering up to 9.5 hours of talk-time and up to 350 hours of stand-by time.

The exact release date of Sony Ericsson Z780 via AT&T is not known yet and neither is its price. Anyway, US mobile users can hope the clamshell will be available in July the latest, for a decent price.
