Today, Japanese-Swedish mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson announced the release of a new Android-based smartphone on the market in India, namely the Sony Ericsson Xperia ray.

Based on Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, the new smartphone comes to the market with appealing features in a stylish design, and is aimed at attracting as many users to it as possible.

The handset features a fast 1GHz application processor from Qualcomm and features a wide range of advancements, including Sony’s camera technologies, or support for a great multimedia experience while on the go.

The mobile phone features a 3.3-inch touchscreen display, along with the said 1 GHz processor, and can deliver capabilities similar to those offered by the Sony Ericsson Xperia arc, its bigger brother.

Moreover, the Xperia ray was packed with an 8.1-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with Exmor R for mobile sensor and with support for HD video recording. It comes with a front-facing camera too.

The new smartphone is only 9.4 mm thin and is expected to arrive on shelves in Orange /White and Orange/ Black.

“The launch of the Xperia ray and continues our journey into tapping the smartphone market in India. With the launch of Xperia arc and PLAY in April, we marked a milestone through the collaborations and innovations we brought to the market.”

The smartphone also brings Sony Ericsson’s Facebook inside Xperia software to India, being capable to deliver great social networking integration and an impressive experience.

The mobile phone also offers support for the over 200,000 apps available in the Android Market, as well as for a wide range of services from Google.

For the time being, no specific details on the availability date and pricing of this mobile phone were unveiled.
