A few days after the official launch of the Xperia arc smartphone, Sony Ericsson representatives felt that more details about the device's spec sheet needed to be disclosed. One of the most interesting pieces of information that got confirmed is the Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon 1 GHz processor that powers the phone.

In addition, Sony Ericsson Xperia arc embeds an Adreno 205 graphics processing unit, the same GPU included with the HTC Desire HD, HTC myTouch HD or Blackberry PlayBook tablet.

However, benchmarks revealed that Samsung's Hummingbird CPU with PowerVR SGX540 GPU was expected to beat the Snapdragon CPU with Adreno 205 by a small margin.

Furthermore, Sony Ericsson officials denied the existence of an Android OS version higher than 2.3 on the Xperia arc.

Even though pictures with the smartphone displaying Android 2.4 on the screen have been spotted in the wild, it seems that this was caused by a misconfiguration in some phone samples and nothing more to get excited about.

More details disclosed include the fact that the Xperia arc does not feature a front facing camera and that Mediascape was removed in its earlier form and has been changed into a customizable widget based “media pane.”

Also, the music player does have an equalizer with 10 different genre based presets and customization options.

Sony Ericsson Xperia arc features two microphones which are used for noise suppression during phone calls.

The 8-megapixel camera with autofocus features a LED flash which can be put in four different modes: Auto, Fill-flash, Red-eye Reduction and Off.

According to Sony Ericsson, the Xperia arc's operating system has been customized so that it can be upgraded with later versions of the Android mobile platform faster and easier.
