Mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson is getting ready to deliver to all of its Xperia X10 users out there a new software update, one that would bring the OS version on their devices up to Android 2.1. It might not be the latest flavor of Android, but it still can offer a wide range of enhancements when compared to the platform currently on the handset, namely Android 1.6.

The Android 2.1 operating system upgrade for Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 was promised ever since early 2010, with an original delivery date set for the end of the third quarter.

However, the roll-out was delayed to the fourth quarter, and now we're waiting for an official announcement regarding its availability for all Xperia X10 devices out there, including X10 mini and X10 mini pro, as well as for Xperia X8.

However, until that happens, Sony Ericsson offers us the possibility to learn more on how X10 and Android 2.1 would go along together in a series of videos that were published via its product blog.

We already had the chance to view two such videos last week, one of which was showing the new capabilities the phone's camera enjoys, and a new clip was made available for your viewing pleasure, embedded at the bottom of this article.

From what Rikard Skogberg notes on the blog post presenting the video, we understand that similar clips might emerge soon, so that we can make a better idea of how Android 2.1 would look like on Xperia X10.

Here's what the said blog post reads: "Some of the things you expressed wishes to learn more about are any improvements to Timescape, Social Phonebook etc.

Yesterday I recorded another video showing you a bit of what to expect. What I show is basically a small but important update to Timescape, the experience from our implementation of the Social Phonebook and also the improved in-call user interface."

The video was recorded with another X10 device, though it appears that it was not recorded in the best possible environment.

As stated above, Sony Ericsson still has to announce a specific roll-out date for the Android 2.1 OS upgrade, something that might happen in a few weeks. Stay tuned for more.
