Sony Ericsson and Mobile Complete will launch a Virtual Lab service in order to test Java ME applications remotely. The solution will be available for pre-commercial mobile phones and will provide real-time results.

The Virtual Lab brings several advantages that make it considerably easier to develop and test Java ME based applications for Sony Ericsson phones. The fact that it is online means that it is available at any time time of the day and anywhere. All members of Sony Ericsson Developer World will have the chance of using this new solution for providing support for precommercial mobile phones that the company releases.

Everything will be done in order to help developers and ease their work. They will no longer need to invest in device labs or even be physically present on an operator's network. Moreover, this Virtual Lab will also offer those registered Developer World Community members access to pre-commercial, Java ME based Sony Ericsson phones. This means that they will have the chance of testing them long before they hit the market in order to think of ways of improving them.

"With the launch of this remote testing service together with Mobile Complete, Sony Ericsson is responding to consistent developer feedback in benchmarking surveys from the past few years about the importance of having early-access to phones and prototypes for testing purposes. The Virtual Lab [...] helps the community speed up the development process of new applications for our phones" said Ulf Wretling, General Manager and Head of Content Planning and Management at Sony Ericsson.

The Virtual Lab service will be launched at the same time with six of the most popular phone models that will be released this year. More phones will become available as soon as possible after Sony Ericsson's official press announcements. Five of the phones that will be soon released are already available for trial online. This includes Sony Ericsson W880 and W580 Walkman phones, the K550 and K810 Cyber-shot ones and the T650 too.
