In July this year, Solange Knowles, Beyonce’s sister and successful singer on her own, was photographed picking up her kid from school and sporting a closely shaved head, as opposed to the long mane she used to have. In a later Twitter post, the star said the new ‘do had nothing to do with making a statement – however, she will explain the decision to cut her hair so short in an upcoming episode on Oprah, Rap Up informs.

Solange has always been very protective of her privacy, often saying she did not feel the need to explain to the media everything she did or, in this case, changed about her appearance. When photos of her drastic, new ‘do began to surface online and speculation to circulate that she was trying to make a statement with it (although what that might have been was not known), she bitterly denied it. The singer seems to have changed her mind in the meanwhile, since she’s ready to speak out about what prompted her to cut her hair so short.

“Solange is about to enter a hairy situation. Even though she doesn’t understand the fuss over chopping her locks off, the 23-year-old singer is set to talk about the experience with Oprah. Beyonce’s younger sister will make her first appearance on ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’ on Wednesday, September 30, to discuss her hair and why she decided to cut it all off. Photos of a nearly bald Solange were a hot topic on blogs when they surfaced in July.” Rap Up writes of the upcoming interview.

As we also reported at the time, Solange became very upset when she learned of the reports making the rounds that had her as some sort of trendsetter for cutting her hair short. She consequently took to her Twitter page to lash out at the tabloids and anyone else who wanted to see in her new ‘do a statement or, for that matter, anything beyond a personal choice made for purely practical reasons. Moreover, making her new ‘do a newsworthy topic, ahead of other (truly pressing) issues, was outrageous, she pointed out.

“Listen, if I wanted to make a statement, I would have twitpic’d [uploaded pictures]. I was simply taking my son to school. Stupid paps took pic. I’ve had my hair cut like this for two weeks. I was NOT inspired by anyone but myself. I have done this twice in my llife [sic]. I was 16. I was 18. Did not care about your opinion then. Don’t care now. Don’t need your attention. I am #3 trending topic [on Twitter] before IRAN and some of you can’t even locate it on a map. It’s sad. I just wanted to be free from the bondage that black women sometimes put on themselves with hair. I’m not mad at all of you that have made your opinions know [sic] and have sent negative energy my way.” Solange wrote at the time.
