New Mac freeware

Welcome back to another edition of Softpedia’s Mac OS X freeware picks. As usual, I have three Mac apps ready for free download right here on our web site, all of which make useful additions for any kind of Mac user.

App Store Expense Monitor -

keep track of your App Store purchases

Developed by WetFish Software, App Store Expense Monitor is a very easy to use menu bar app that allows you to quickly see how much money you have spent in the App Store, as well as check the price of each downloaded app individually and even edit the prices yourself.

For those who buy iPhone apps every day, the App Store Expense Monitor may cause headaches rather than provide usefulness (you probably don’t want to learn that you’ve spent hundreds on lousy apps), but for those looking to keep track of the apps they download and buy, as well as get quick info, such as the app’s category, developer and price, it might come in handy. Requirements call for an App Store account and, of course, a Mac. The most recent version of App Store Expense Monitor adds Japanese and German translation, as well as a missing file, needed for the update function.

Logitech Control Center - properly enable all the features of your Logitech keyboard, mouse or trackball

Logitech Control Center is a free software package from the makers of some of the most popular peripherals out there, Logitech. The software allows Mac users to program their keyboard and/or mouse buttons to perform different functions and to take full advantage of their Logitech keyboard, mouse, or trackball.

The LCC and your Logitech keyboard allow you to browse the Internet using dedicated keys that provide one-touch access to favorite sites, and also provide the ability to launch email applications, play music and control the system speaker using built-in buttons. Logitech keyboards also enable you to program keys and quickly open documents, folders, applications, and other frequently used items, and the Logitech Control Center lets you customize these options to your liking.

With the release of Logitech Control Center 3.0 for Mac OS X, the company has added support for new mice and keyboards. The Logitech Unifying software can now pair up to six compatible wireless mice, keyboards and number pads with one single Logitech Unifying receiver. An enhanced Zoom feature enables toggling the mouse’s scroll wheel between scroll and zoom modes by pressing a button.

Logitech Control Center supports English, French, German, Italian, Dutch and Spanish, and is a Universal Binary. The software requires Mac OS X OS 10.4.x (Tiger) or 10.5.x (Leopard) and a Logitech USB pointing device or keyboard. Users must register their Logitech peripherals before using LCC.

Ejectlet - easily eject mounted volumes, one by one or all at once

As its name implies, Ejectlet is a menubar app that lets you easily unmount volumes from your Mac computer. Developer macendeavor went for the easiest interface possible, which is exactly what you need from such an app.

Besides listing all your mounted volumes (discs, flash drives, USB devices, etc.), in a single, minuscule window, Ejectlet allows you to unmount these volumes, either one at a time, or all with a single click. The software is helpful not only because it’s time saving, but also because it allows you to safely unmount all volumes, eliminating the possibility of data corruption or data loss.
