Sony, together with Sanzaru Games, are working hard on bringing the Sly Cooper franchise back to life on the PlayStation 3, and have announced after the E3 2011 conference that Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time is officially heading to the Japanese console.

Sony has quite a lot of exclusive franchises being developed all around the world at its various studios, but, while we saw impressive amounts of hype for games like Uncharted 3, Resistance 3 or Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One, the company hasn't forgotten about smaller series, like the Sly Cooper one.

After last year's Sly Collection, which packed the three games released in the series on the old PlayStation 2, remastered in high definition and with extra mini-games for the PlayStation Move, a proper, current generation game will appear in the adventure series.

The new title, Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, was revealed by Sanzaru Games, the same company that released the Sly Collection, and has seemingly taken charge of the franchise from its founding studio, Sucker Punch.

A few details have been revealed about the new game, which brings back the same classic Sly Cooper stylized visual experience, coupled with plenty of platforming and stealth mechanics, but also some pretty solid combat gameplay, when the situation calls for Sly to use his trusty hook weapon.

Glen Egan, the president and CEO of Sanzaru Games also expressed his excitement about working on Sly 4, saying that it's a huge endeavor but he is confident in his team at Sanzaru Games.

"A question I was asked several times at the show was “Isn’t it a huge amount of pressure to take on such a big franchise like Sly Cooper?” I think my answer really sums up the spirit of Sanzaru: we are infinitely more excited about the fact that we are working on something as cool and fun as Sly Cooper and this excitement feeds on itself as people are constantly coming up with cool new ideas to incorporate into the game. So while I wouldn’t describe the process of making such a big game as easy we are more excited to see how it all comes together."
