Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless has just announced the availability of Skype mobile application on more devices that before, including a series of 3G Smartphones via an app based on the BREW platform. Among these devices, we can count the LG enV TOUCH, LG Chocolate Touch and Samsung Reality.

The release of this application leverages the partnership Verizon and Skype announced about a half a year ago, through which Big Red's Android and BlackBerry users received access to a Skype mobile application.

The new announcement is meant to make the solution available for more Verizon users, since not all of them own a smartphone based on Android or BlackBerry.

However, the newly announced Skype mobile app for Verizon Wireless 3G Multimedia phones comes with similar functionality as the one available for the carrier's smartphones.

Skype mobile offers users the possibility to make free calls to their friends and family straight from their handset, though it does require a data plan to be used.

Other features of the application include the possibility to call landlines and mobile phones overseas, to send instant messages to people all around the world, and more.

In case there are some who do not know how Skype works on Verizon's devices, here's what they need to know: - Skype-to-Skype calls, to or from your mobile, computer or TV These calls are completely free. They don’t count towards your Verizon Wireless minutes allowance.

- Calls to another mobile number or landline number in the US These calls count towards your Verizon Wireless minutes.

- Calls to an international mobile number or landline number These calls are great value – pay for these using Skype Credit or one of our subscriptions. For example, you can make unlimited calls to landlines in Guadalajara, Mexico City and Monterrey for just $6.99 per month.

According to the wireless carrier, the Skype mobile application should prove a great option for a wide range of users, including students on a budget, now that they are getting ready for the fall semester.

Whether returning as upperclassmen or starting at a new school, Skype mobile can keep students connected with friends and family in a simple, convenient and cost-effective way.

Users interested in getting Skype mobile on their LG enV TOUCH, LG Chocolate Touch or Samsung Reality can do so by downloading the app from Media Center/Get It Now or from the Verizon Media Store, or by texting SKYPE to 2255 to receive a link to the download.
