A new version of the Skyfire mobile browser for Google’s Android operating system was made available for download via the Android Market, providing users with a range of new features just in time for Holidays. According to a recent post on the company’s blog, the new release comes with fixes, improvements, and a new interface.

Moreover, the new Skyfire 3.1 for Android offers support for the latest version of Google’s mobile operating system, namely Android 2.3 Gingerbread, which was released only a few weeks ago.

“Just in time for the Holidays, the Skyfire team has a little gift for our fans… Skyfire version 3.1. This version has lots of bug fixes, stability enhancements, a completely redesigned tab interface and Gingerbread support,” the company notes.

“That's right, if you just splurged and got the new Nexus S, Skyfire is now Gingerbread (Android 2.3) compliant,” they continue. Of course, Nexus S is not the only handset on which one could use the browser.

Skyfire 3.1 is compatible with Android 2.0+ devices, and can be found in the Android Market for them. However, a previous release of the application, namely Skyfire 2.3, is available with support for older Android 1.5 or 1.6 handsets (you will find the download link below).

The release notes for the new version of the application also includes:

- Redesigned Tab Interface: Fast and functional... We think you are going to love the new tab design. - Gingerbread Support: Skyfire is now compliant with Gingerbread (Android 2.3 and 2.3.1). - Bug Fixes: Many bug fixes that should further reduce crashes and improve app stability In case there are some who might have not encountered the mobile browser before, we should note that it comes with features like: Flash video support, User Agent Switching, Facebook quick view, feed reader, popular pages, Skyfire search, and others more.

More info on the application can be found in the video embedded below. As stated above, the new Skyfire 3.1 is available in the Android Market here (Market link), and can also be downloaded through scanning the barcode to the left.

Skyfire 2.3 for Android 1.5 and 1.6 devices can be found available for download from Softpedia here.
