In the United Kingdom

This is getting rather boring. Week after week, the Nintendo phenomenon Wii Fit, boosted by its Balance Board hardware peripheral, appears at the top or near the top of the United Kingdom videogames chart. I bet analysts and pundits are secretly hoping that the Nintendo money maker will at one point falter and drop out of the top ten so that they might put something other than “Wii Fit” in the title of their articles.

Call of Duty: World at War manages to remain at number two, but consider the fact that this game is selling on three platforms, the PC, the Xbox 360 from Microsoft, and the PlayStation 3 from Sony, while Wii Fit is only selling, as the name implies, for the Nintendo Wii. Still, it's a good performance from the Treyarch made World War II shooters which, despite the rather weak storyline, manages to impress with the production values and with the complex multiplayer games modeled after the very successful Modern Warfare.

FIFA 09 seems to be making a comeback, going up a place to number three. The exciting games in the Premier League and the imminent return of the Champions League means that the good times are coming back for football fans who are buying their favorite simulator to get their gaming fix.

Professor Layton and the Curious Village for the Nintendo DS is at number four, with its engaging puzzles, while Skate 2 is going down in sales, coming from last week's number three. The EA Sports developed skating game still seems to be too hardcore for some players.

Mario Kart Wii and Wii Play from Nintendo are at places six and seven in the chart, while My Fitness Coach is the second personal improvement game sitting in the top ten. Tom Raider: Underworld is holding on to ninth place, on the strength of the PlayStation 2 version, while Need For Speed Undercover is at number ten.
