Leading mobile music discovery provider Shazam has just announced that it managed to top a total number of 75 million users, growing up from 50 million it accounted for six months ago. Moreover, the company announced that it had identified over one billion songs, a milestone demonstrating its leadership in the mobile consumer services and brands.

“2010 marks ten years of Shazam’s innovation and leadership. During this time, Shazam has become synonymous with music recognition and discovery on mobile phones. Shazam is now a brand that consumers know and trust and our one billionth tag is testament to our ever growing fan base of users that enjoy Shazam’s unrivalled music experience. In the future our fans will continue to see further innovation from Shazam as we continue to expand our service and maintain our position as the most popular music application for mobile phones in the world,” Andrew Fisher, Shazam’s CEO, commented on the announcement.

Shazam is currently available in a number of more than 200 countries around the world, and has partnerships with leading wireless operators and mobile phone makers. Recently, a ComScore survey named Shazam the ‘most popular mobile application in Europe,’ has demonstrated that the service is becoming one of the biggest names in the mobile space, helping users discover and purchase the music they like.

“Thanks to our loyal fan base and support from our partners Shazam has achieved an impressive 100% growth in the last year. We are confident that the user growth we have seen in the last six months will continue throughout 2010 and that we will exceed 100 million Shazamers by the end of the year,” concluded Andrew Fisher.

According to Shazam, it is capable of delivering top mobile phone users a comprehensive and compelling music journey, which includes more than just music discovery. Users can identify a song that is being played, get a 30 seconds preview, purchase the track, find various info on the artist and more. Shazam also offers proprietary Tag Charts, offering users details on what is popular, and also enables them to get recommendations or share music by sending Tags as a Tweet, to a Facebook mini-feed or by email.
