Shazam has updated its popular iOS app that even Apple likes to use in its iPhone ads and other promo materials. It brings something called “Shazam Friends,” described by the developers as an innovative way for Shazamers to discover and share new music with their friends on Facebook.

Providing a real-time feed of songs that friends have tagged, Shazam Friends creates a continuously updating list of tracks.

The feature is easy to set up once users download the new Shazam app from the App Store.

A new “Friends” tab will appear in the app’s interface. Shazamers need to tap it, log into their Facebook accounts, and confirm they would like to connect and share with friends.

As soon as they’re done with that, they can browse all of their friends’ tags, listen to previews, watch music videos, read reviews, access biographies, get artist tour information and do lots more.

Friends’ tags can be added to one’s Shazam history and playlist, users can purchase the track, or stream the song from their playlist, post tags to Facebook and Twitter, add comments… pretty much everything to make Shazam fans realize this is a must-install update.

“Shazam Friends is a major step forward in social music sharing. We all have friends or family with great taste in music and have discovered an artist or song because of them,” said Andrew Fisher, Chief Executive Officer, Shazam.

“Our new feature not only allows Shazamers to see what their friends on Facebook are tagging, but they can also listen to the track and go on to purchase it,” Fisher added.

“Shazam Friends is an exciting new feature for our community of Shazamers, that will make it easier than ever before to learn about new music and share those moments.”

Available in both Shazam Free and Encore Apps, the new Shazam is immediately available for download on iOS platforms, and will soon be available for Android smartphone users as well.
