The plan will be revealed at FPD

Sharp could reveal an updated plan for the production of tenth-generation (10G) TFT LCDs at the upcoming FPD International 2006) to be held in Yokohama, Japan from October 18-20, according to the Chinese-language Apple Daily, quoted by Digitimes.

Furthermore, Toshiba will make a speech on its surface-conduction electron-emitter display (SED) technology at the event, while HB Chen, president, COO and spokesperson of AUO, will deliver a speech for the first time publicly after AUO merged with Quanta Display (QDI), the paper indicated.

This year, about 370 companies from Taiwan with 900 booths will attend the show, compared to 355 companies from Taiwan last year, while HannStar Display and TPO Displays will not join the event, according to host Nikkei Business Publications, as quoted by the paper.

Sharp will invest 500 billion yen (about $ 4.26 billion) to build a tenth-generation (10G) TFT LCD plant, with construction to begin in the third quarter of 2007 and volume production to begin in mid-2008, according to the Japanese-language Nihon Keizai Shimbun. The plant will process 2,850 ? 3,050 mm glass substrates into eight 57" panels or six 65" panels. Sharp declined to comment on the news.
