The latest issue of Elle Magazine brings a stunning photospread with former Disney darling Selena Gomez, who is now working out the ways she can most effectively break from her Disney image. It also comes with a revealing interview with the star. Currently dating teen heartthrob Justin Bieber, Selena tells Elle that he is the most hopelessly romantic person in the world. Of course, having the kind of money he has also makes it easier for him to be so.
Recalling one particular instance in which The Biebs rented out the entire Staples Center just for the two of them, so they could watch “Titanic” together, on a date, Selena says that there is proof he is a romantic.
“He really is a hopeless romantic. I had just mentioned it in the car – all I said is that I really want to see Titanic again, and then…” she explains.
However, life wasn't always so enchanted for her. For instance, Selena remembers growing up and often having to hear her mother complaining about no longer having money for gas.
That was, obviously, before Disney.
“I can remember about seven times when our car got stuck on the highway because we’d run out of gas money… [but my mom still] saved up to take me to concerts. She took me to museums, aquariums, to teach me about the world, about what’s real,” Selena says.
As for Disney, no matter how much it helped her launch a career in showbiz, Selena knows it makes people jump to the wrong conclusions.
“[It] is a machine, so people automatically assume that you can’t work for the channel unless you act and sing and dance and sign up for all that. That’s absolutely not true. I always did everything the way I wanted to do it,” she says.
Right now, Selena is out to prove to the world
she's a solid actress even without Disney backing her. For the time being, though, she's only offered teenybopper movie roles and she wants to grow as an artist, so they don't really suit her interest.
