Sega has just announced that it will be delivering a downloadable retro-inspired arcade racer to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 this year, called Sega Rally Online Arcade.

Sega has been listening to fans that wanted a new release in its popular Sega Rally series, and with this new downloadable title, wants to deliver a compact racing experience that will please all of them.

Sega Rally Online Arcade will appear on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade, for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, respectively.

“We’ve blended our hit arcade racing series with the best elements from the console versions to bring our fans the SEGA Rally experience in compact, downloadable format,” said Haruki Satomi, vice president of Digital Business at SEGA.

“Whether they’re new to the SEGA Rally series or they’ve participated in countless races over the years, we’re confident everyone will enjoy the wide variety of features included in this fan favorite.”

Sega Rally Online Arcade will boast multiple game modes, including Championship Battle and Time Attack, all of which made the classic games so popular back in the day.

As its name suggests, the new downloadable racing game will also include an online mode, in which players can battle up to five other drivers from all around the world in the stages from the game.

The game will also have a brand new achievement system, 13 rally cars to choose from, including the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX, Subaru Impreza WRX STI, Skoda Fabia S2000 or the Peugeot 207, and online learderboards, where players can try to put their best times for the rest of the world to see.

The company didn't reveal an actual release date for Sega Rally Online Arcade, but rest assured that it will be released in the following months onto the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade.
