Just a few days ago we heard that Seasonic was developing a new power supply unit line that would come with 80 PLUS Platinum certification to take the place of the current X-series PSUs, and now we finally have more details available about these units as well as their release dates.

For starters, the series will be comprised of just two models, with 860W (P-860XP) and 1,000W (P-1000XP) ratings, and both PSUs feature completely modular cable management.

In addition, the units will pack six PCI Express connectors as well as a Sanyo Denki fan which kicks in only when a higher than 40% load is recorded by the PSU.

In the case of the 1000W model, this means that the fan won't start until the system draws more than 400W form the power supply.

According to ComputerBase, most of the PSU's internals were taken from the current X-series and then tweaked so that it would comply with the 80 PLUS Platinum standard.

Not many other specifications are available at this time, but the 1KW unit has a single 12V rail, which is rated at 83 amps, so it alone can supply the system with 996W.

Judging by its power rating, the P-1000XP should be compatible with a wide range of CrossFireX and SLI setups as well as with all the upcoming high performance CPUs, including solutions built on top of the AMD Bulldozer and Intel Sandy Bridge-E architectures.

As far as availability is concerned, these new PSUs will be officially launched in the summer of 2011, and the P-1000XP is expected to be priced at 270€, while the P-860XP should be listed at 220€.

In addition to the all new Platinum certificated P-series, Seasonic also plans to release two new X-series models, that will be rated at 1050W and 1250W.
