Green group Sea Shepherd is all about safeguarding the world's remaining whale and dolphin population, and it is also very much preoccupied with convincing more people to get involved and support their cause.

To this end, the organization has rolled out a “From the Cove to Captivity” video contest.

Those wishing to enter this competition are supposed to piece together a video that sheds light on the horrors that occur each year during the whale and dolphin hunt in Taiji, Japan.

On its website, Sea Shepherd explains that folks need not travel all the way to Japan to obtain footage that they can use to make their video.

On the contrary, it is perfectly OK to use footage and photos that the organization has obtained and has shared with the public over the years.

“We are asking supporters to create a short video – in English or Japanese – that shows what happens to dolphins in Taiji, Japan. The contest is open to amateur videographers and film students from any country in the world,” the organization says.

“Contest entrants may use existing footage and photos from the Sea Shepherd USA website and social media channels in their videos,” it adds.

Those wishing to take part in this competition have a few more days to create their video and send it to the organization. Thus, the deadline for this project is this coming January 24.

The makers of the two winning videos will receive a cash prize of $350 - $500 (about €256 - €365). They will also get T-shirts signed by the 2013-2014 Cove Guardians, and an out-of-production item from what Sea Shepherd likes to call its “vintage vault.”

The two runner-ups will not remain empty handed either, the organization stresses.

What's more, the videos will be posted on social media channels and on the official website for the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society.

If you feel like entering this competition, be sure to check out its rules and regulations.
