Gears of War is an extremely popular franchise which aims to further enhance its numerous fan base through the upcoming launch of the second title in the series, Gears of War 2, this November. Apart from plans for future releases, the development team at Epic Games has also contacted a Hollywood studio regarding a future movie based on the studio's intellectual property.

The director of the Underworld movie series, Len Wiseman, has already confirmed that he would be working on the future big screen adaptation of Gears of War and recently, Chris Morgan confirmed that he would be in charge of screenwriting the actions of the movie. He also spoke with MTV about details of the future movie and how it would emphasize the gritty reality of the battles between the humans and the alien invading force, the Locust. He developed the fact that it would not be a true prequel to the first game, but would depict Emergence Day, the moment when the aliens began invading the planet.

“There are elements to it that can be considered a prequel, but it's not a prequel as far as I'm concerned. It would be a crying shame not to deal with Marcus and Dom. I would not be interested in the movie if we weren't dealing with them. I want to see those guys. I want to see 'Emergence Day.' I want to see this stuff happen.”

Morgan also revealed the fact that Wiseman, the director of the movie, wants to keep the computer generated images to a minimum, saying that most of the viewing public is tired of seeing completely digital releases which take the realism out of the whole cinema experience. “In Wiseman's mind, he wants to make it as realistic as possible,” Morgan said, “and to blur those lines where your mind says, 'Oh, it's a big CGI film' ”.

All in all, it definitely sounds like the team will pull out all the stops to make a very interesting movie. Let's just hope that it won't follow in the path of previous game based films which disappointed a lot of fans.
