Regional carrier SaskTel operating in the province of Saskatchewan has just announced that it has extended it its 4G wireless network coverage to 13 more locations.

Furthermore, the carrier also added additional capacity in Saskatoon which is intended to reduce 4G network congestion within the city.

According to SaskTel, it 4G network is capable of providing increased bandwidth with download speeds approximately 4 times faster than existing speeds (up to 21 megabits per second).

In addition, the carrier's 4G network is compatible with approximately 80% of all the networks across the world and international roaming, which means that SaskTel customers will be able to use their SaskTel 4G device on 4G networks almost anywhere in the world.

Construction of the 4G network is a significant development for SaskTel and its customers in Saskatchewan. SaskTel 4G wireless coverage is already available to more than 98% of the population,” said Bill Boyd, minister responsible for SaskTel.

As SaskTel states, the 13 tower locations where its 4G network has been extended are: Ceylon South, Cigar Lake Mine, Cut Knife, Dahinda, Endeavour and Etomami Lake, Key Lake Mine, McArthur River Mine, McClean Lake Mine, Mildred, Saskatoon University of Saskatchewan, Spring Valley and Yellow Quill.

Customers who wish to take advantage of SaskTel's 4G services should purchase on the 4G-enabled devices retailed by the carrier, including iPhone 4, Samsung Galaxy S II, Samsung Vibrant, BlackBerry Torch 9800, LG Optimus Quantum, HTC Incredible S and Wildfire S.

On related news, SaskTel stated that it did not plan to remove the existing CDMA network services in favor of its newly launched 4G network, so customers can choose from a wider range of wireless services.
