Two years ago, when the first “SATC” film arrived in theaters, Sarah Jessica Parker, the ultimate fashionista, took a very bold step towards trendsetter territory, when she paired a pistachio Alexander McQueen dress with a hat by Philip Treacy, which remembered either a shrub or an elaborate wedding centerpiece. The other night, also at the London premiere of the second film with the same name, Parker upped her game again, People magazine says.

Since she rocked the pastel colors at one of the US premieres of the film, for London, the star chose black. Still, say what you will about black being a bland, unattractive color that never stands out, but SJP rocked one of the most sophisticated and original ensembles seen on the red carpet in recent months, fashion critics say. That’s because she matched her McQueen gown (a tribute to the late brilliant designer) with a hat by the same Treacy, this time made entirely of black layered lace, which made it look more like a giant bow than anything.

Or a cloud, the mag says. Parker “picked another stellar look from the deceased designer – she told People at the time that she was ‘shocked and overcome with grief’ after McQueen’s passing earlier this year – for tonight’s premiere of the film’s sequel in the British capital. With a black tulle cloud by Philip Treacy floating on top of her sleek blonde locks, Parker is stunning in a black silk and lace bustier archive gown from the spring / summer 2008 line with a clutch from McQueen’s pre-fall 2010 collection (the same season as Cate Blanchett’s recent Cannes gown) and pre-fall 2008 lace shoes,” People writes.

“Parker finished the look with a black armband accented with Fred Leighton diamond clips. While we loved her neon yellow Valentino gown at the N.Y.C. premiere, we love seeing SJP push fashion boundaries like no other – who else could pull off that amazing hairpiece? While Sarah Jessica will be presenting the CFDA’s Board of Directors’ Special Tribute Award at the CFDA Awards on June 7 in his honor, we can’t think of a greater tribute to the loss of her friend than wearing his genius pieces in his homeland,” the magazine goes on to say about the actress’ tribute to the legendary designer.

As also noted above, this kind of tributes to McQueen are actually quite a frequent occurrence, with Cate Blanchett donning one of his last creations on the red carpet at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival. The black over white tulle layered design was one that McQueen had personally picked for the actress – and it also featured a silver eagle caught in mid-flight, with heavy patterns in the lower half. Truly, a stunning design.
