Each year, the Cannes Film Festival sees some of the biggest names in the international movie industry rock the red carpet as they show their support for productions enlisted in the competition. 2010 was no different either, with the crème de la crème making an appearance for the premiere of “Robin Hood,” which also officially kicked off this year’s edition of the festival.

As JustJared can also confirm, to say that the premiere was star-studded might be a bit of an understatement. Aside from lead actors Cate Blanchett and Russell Crowe, other stars attending the fancy premiere were Dame Helen Mirren, Kate Beckinsale, Salma Hayek, Eva Longoria and Aishwarya Rai, also known as the most beautiful woman on the face of the planet. All rocked long, voluminous gowns with plenty of detail, adding a bit more of the regal feeling to an already glamorous event.

Kate Beckinsale looked absolutely breathtaking in a fab Marchesa gown of blue draped tulle with a ruffle skirt that emphasized her slender waist and incredible figure. Oversized chandelier diamond earrings hung heavy on her earlobes, put in the best of lights possible thanks to her updo. The actress went light on the makeup and other accessories, choosing not even to wear a clutch or a bracelet, thus making the earrings have maximum impact.

Salma Hayek and Dame Helen Mirren opted for less volume for their floor-long gowns, as well as for somber colors. “Salma, 43, was her husband Francois Henri Pinault (CEO of The Gucci Group). She wore the very first couture gown from Gucci Première collection, a floor length Bordeaux silk georgette one shoulder gown. Joining Helen, 64, was her husband, director Taylor Hackford. She wore a black jersey asymmetrical gown with embroidered strap from Elie Saab and black silk ferragamo clutch with crystals from Ferragamo,” JustJared says.

The always-stunning Cate Blanchett, whose style is described by many as the perfect combination of elegant sophistication and trendiness, paid tribute to late designer Alexander McQueen by wearing a creation he had personally chosen for her. Black over white tulle, the sleeveless gown featured a silver vulture in mid-flight and heavy patterns in the lower half. She too went easy on the makeup and the accessories, since the gown itself would not have allowed for it.

Indian actress Aishwarya Rai was equally gorgeous in her embroidered tulle and mousseline Elie Saab creation. Named the most beautiful woman on Earth, Rai happily shared some of her time in front of the cameras on the red carpet with “Desperate Housewives” star Eva Longoria, who rocked a one-shoulder trailing white gown.
