O2 has just announced the availability of Samsung Wave 723 in the UK for free with a monthly plan of at least £20. Two weeks after the smartphone has been officially introduced in Germany for EUR 349, O2 customers can get the Samsung Wave 723 for a lot less.

Samsung Wave 723 is the second bada smartphone available in the UK, after Samsung S8500 was launched in April and is currently available via most major British carriers.

Samsung Wave 723 is powered by Samsung's proprietary bada operating system and comes with a large 3.2-inch WQGA capacitive touchscreen with 262K colors and 240 x 400 pixels resolution.

The phone sports a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash, smile detection, geo-tagging and video recording capabilities (QVGA@15fps).

It comes with an aluminum casing and a flip cover that protects it against scratches and dust. The Wave 723 is pretty sleek and lightweight, as it measures 109.5 x 53.9 x 11.8 mm and weighs around114g (with flip and battery).

Other key features of the smartphone include: HSDPA 7.2 Mbps, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP support, TouchWiz UI 3.0, 3.5 mm audio jack, DNSe (Digital Natural Sound Engine) technology, GPS withA-GPS support, 90 MB internal memory and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 16GB).

The Li-Ion 1200 mAh battery is rated by the manufacturer for up to 700 hours standby (up to 600 hours for 3G) or up to 14 hours 20 minutes (up to 6 hours 45 minutes for 3G).

The Samsung Apps store application is included with the phone, but at the moment there aren't many apps available compared to what Apple’s App Store or the Android Market have to offer.

If the device receives positive feedback from customers, there's a high chance that it will be retailed by more UK carriers, just like its S8500 predecessor.
