A good start for T-Mobile's 3G deployment

The first 3G cellular at T-Mobile is about to take the shape of Samsung T639. The phone has recently been approved by FCC and is due to arrive next month.

T-Mobile currently holds no support for a 3G-enabled network, but is making efforts to develop grounds for one. This will come in the near future, along with the release of their first handset capable of providing this type of services.

Samsung T639 works with a 1700 MHz UMTS radio and is capable of bringing only average performances for its user. Specifications are pretty vague at this time, as the sales sheet reveals. More information should be available once the phone gets closer to its release date.

The handset will manage to provide most of the basic capabilities, with nothing more than that. Its camera will not be a VGA one, but of an unspecified higher capability. There is also a music player included for handling media files and making the entertainment package complete.

Samsung T639 will also come with Bluetooth connectivity and a microSD card slot, which means that the data storage space will be enough for the user's needs. These features manage to make it worthy of middle-class consideration, while other performances revealed until now can be found only in low-end devices.

The release of this 3G-enabled device is not necessarily going to happen at the same time with the launch of T-Mobile's network. In fact, the UTMS services can come somewhat later, having the phone ready to support its new offers. It was just about time for T-Mobile to introduce this service in their offer, as most other operators already have. The 3G US network is still at a flimsy scale, with desperate need for solutions and quick development.
