Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless has just launched its first smartphone that includes support for its LTE network while also packing a full-QWERTY keyboard, namely the Samsung Stratosphere.

The new mobile phone is a Galaxy S device, is based on Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, and is expected to become available for purchase at Verizon as soon as October 13th.

The new handset is expected to prove a great option for professionals who are looking for a device capable of providing them with both performance capabilities and fast connectivity.

“The Samsung Stratosphere is the first 4G LTE smartphone from Verizon Wireless equipped with a five-row QWERTY keyboard and designed with Samsung’s four-inch Super AMOLED display,” Verizon notes.

“Additionally, the Stratosphere supports enhanced B2B-enabled connectivity services from Cisco, the most comprehensive mobile implementation of Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) and support for secure remote device management from Sybase Afaria.”

On Big Red's 4G LTE network, the new mobile phone should be able to offer support for download speeds of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) and upload speeds of 2 to 5 Mbps.

The specifications list of the new device also includes a 1 GHz Cortex A8 Hummingbird application processor, along with Wi-Fi Connectivity (802.11 a/b/g/n), Bluetooth 3.0, and mobile hotspot capabilities.

The new Samsung Stratosphere features a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with auto focus and flash, as well as a front 1.3MP camera for video calling while on the go.

Running under Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread, the new device also offers support for a wide range of Google Mobile services, including Gmail, YouTube, Google Talk, Google Search, or Google Maps, as well as for applications available for download via the Android Market.

The Samsung Stratosphere is expected to become available for purchase via all Verizon Wireless Communications Stores starting with October 13th, and will also be sold via the wireless carrier's website.

The handset will feature a price tag of $149.99 (around 110 Euros) with the signing of a contract agreement and after a $50 mail-in rebate.
