Cricket Communication, one of the not-so-big US mobile carriers, offers from now on two fresh Samsung handsets: Samsung MyShot and Samsung Spex, both running on the operator's new CDMA AWS (Advanced Wireless Service) network.

Samsung MyShot is an entry-level clamshell that packs basic but useful features and will cost you no less and no more than $149.99. The phone brings a 1.3 Megapixel camera with self-timer and multi-shot capabilities, Bluetooth, Cricket Games & Apps, Web browsing and downloading, speakerphone, calculator, calendar and so on. Overall, the handset doesn't look bad, but it's neither a device to talk too much about.

Samsung Spex is a slim candybar that comes with even more basic features, including Bluetooth, mobile Web, Cricket Games & Apps and a user-friendly interface. The phone has a tiny display and no photo camera at all, retailing for only 119.99 USD.

"As we prepare to launch the first of our AWS markets, we want to ensure that consumers have a choice of mobile devices when they sign up for Cricket's unlimited wireless services," said said Al Moschner, Cricket's Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. "We are pleased to be the first operator to bring CDMA AWS devices to market including the Samsung MyShot and Spex. With today's introduction, both new and existing Cricket subscribers have access to two new wireless phones that incorporate the latest AWS capability, while having the ability to operate on the PCS and cellular bands."

Another affordable handset, UTStarcom CDM7126, was released a few weeks ago by Cricket as the first AWS-enabled mobile phone, hence the new Samsungs are the second and the third ones.

Samsung MyShot and Samsung Spex are available as of today, the 28th of March, but only in Cricket's retail stores from Tulsa, Oklahoma. However, starting the next weeks the handsets will be available in all Cricket markets across the US.
