Cites two patent infringements related to wireless technology

It looks like the patent war between Samsung and Apple continues with the former filing requests in Paris, France and Milano, Italy to ban iPhone 4 sales in these two countries.

Those who thought that Samsung lost the war against the Cupertino-based giant after losing several battles will be disappointed or thrilled to see that the Korean handset manufacturer fights back big style.

In this regard, Samsung officially announced it will file today two preliminary injunction motions in France and Italy demanding the courts to block the sale of the newly announced Apple iPhone 4S smartphone in the selected markets.

Samsung claims that Apple severely infringes two patents related to wireless telecommunications technology, specifically Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) standards for 3G mobile handsets.

Furthermore, Samsung considers the infringed technology as being too important and “essential to the reliable functioning of telecom networks and devices,” hence it decided to bring the battle in court and requested that iPhone 4S sales should be stopped before it begins.

According to Samsung, “Apple has continued to flagrantly violate our intellectual property rights and free ride on our technology. We believe it is now necessary to take legal action to protect our innovation.”

The Korean company also stated that it will file the additional preliminary injunctions in other countries as well.

However, this will probably depend on the result of the first two injunctions filed in France and Italy.

Samsung's move is a direct result of Apple's aggressive actions that led to Galaxy Tab sales bans in various European countries, as well as Australia.

Still, even if Galaxy Tab will not be able to take on Apple's iPad, the hunt for an iPad killer will go on, as other handset manufacturer will launch more competitive products.

Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
