Samsung P1000 Galaxy Tab, the first tablet PC the South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung brought to the market with Google's Android operating system on board, is now available for purchase in the UK at only £479, which is £50 lower than the initial price. The Android-based tablet PC was launched on the UK market on November 1st, with a price tag of £529.99 if purchased SIM-free and unlocked.

Most of the UK retailers got the Galaxy Tab on their offerings at this price tag on November 1st, but the slate is now £50 cheaper in the country.

The new, reduced price was spotted for the first time over at Dixons, but Amazon too decided to adopt it, and the Galaxy Tab is now available at only £479 at this retailer too. Both of them offer free shipping.

The Galaxy Tab sports 16GB of internal memory, a 1GHz application processor, 3G connectivity, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, great multimedia features, and Google's Android 2.2 Froyo OS on board.

Enthusiasts will certainly rejoice learning that the slate is available for a smaller price tag than before, and sales are expected to increase.

Recently, Samsung noted that it plans on selling a number of over 1 million Galaxy Tab units before the end of the ongoing year, and the price cut might help it achieve that goal.

However, the fact that Galaxy Tab got a price reduction only two weeks after being officially released on the UK market might not be seen as very encouraging from a certain point of view.

Even before the slate was launched, some argued that it was too expensive when compared to the 10-inch Apple iPad, especially since it comes with a smaller, 7-inch touchscreen display.

Although the slate created quite a hype before being released, the fact that it came with a smaller screen than the iPad, while boasting a higher price tag, might have not been as encouraging for end-users as initially expected.

Those interested in the purchase of a Galaxy Tab 16GB model at the new £479 price tag will find the tablet PC available at Amazon here, or at Dixons here.

Update: It appears that Dixons cut an additional £10 from the slate's price tag, and that it now offers it or only £469.
