Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless has just announced the launch of a new handset for its users, the Samsung Intensity II. The new device is already available for purchase on the company's website and should be put on sale via Verizon Wireless Communications Stores during the following weeks. The new device, which arrives with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, offers one-touch access to social networking sites, and has been made partly from recycled plastic.

“We’re excited about the Intensity II launch because a major part of Verizon’s sustainability strategy is providing products that utilize post-consumer materials,” said Jim Gowen, chief sustainability officer for Verizon. The new mobile phone comes with an exterior battery cover that was made from 35 percent post-consumer materials, the company announced. Moreover, the device comes with an eco-calculator that offers users the possibility to track car fuel mileage, estimated amount of carbon dioxide emitted, and more.

The new device is available for purchase in two color flavors, namely Deep Gray and Metallic Blue. Its specifications list includes the horizontal slide-out QWERTY keyboard with external numeric keypad, a 2.2-inch screen that boasts a QVGA (240 x 320 pixel) resolution, 1.3-megapixel infrared camera with night vision, voice commands and advanced speech recognition, Bluetooth technology that sports various profiles, and a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space.

Some of the main features of the new handset include: - Full suite of messaging options, including text, picture and voice messaging; Mobile IM; Mobile Chat; Mobile Email; and Mobile Web - Social Beat application offers customers a single point for accessing social networking sites, including Facebook, Twitter and MySpace; e-mail; content feeds and instant messaging - VZ Navigator capabilities for customers to receive audible turn-by-turn directions to millions of points of interest and share the directions with others - Media Center provides access to downloadable games, ringtones, wallpapers, location-based services and more - Supports Verizon Wireless services, including V CAST Music with Rhapsody (subscription and PC downloads only), V CAST Song ID and VZW Tones

The Samsung Intensity II can be purchase from the wireless carrier's website for $49.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate and after the signing of a two year contract agreement with the wireless carrier. As stated above, the device is set to become available for purchase via Verizon Wireless Communications Stores within the following weeks.
