South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics might be closer than expected from launching on shelves its first Android-based tablet PC, the so called Samsung Tab, which was spotted into the wild today.

Although no official details on this are available for the time being, it seems that Samsung already started the live testing of this device in various markets, and that the actual launch date might not be that far in the end.

The yet unannounced Galaxy Tab can be seen in the video below, which Electronista claims was shot in Sydney, Australia.

The slate, which was seen in the “hands of an anonymous telco worker at a train station,” resembles a lot with that already rumored Galaxy Tab Android-based tablet, but no specific info on it was unveiled.

For what it's worth, some specs on this slate did emerge a while ago, including info on a 1GHz Hummingbird processor, the same as on the high-end Android-based Galaxy S smartphone.

Moreover, it seems that the device's unofficial description, which includes adjectives like “awesome,” “very responsive,” or the like, matches these rumored specs.

In case there are some yet unfamiliar with what Galaxy Tab is all about, we should mention that it is expected to land as a 7-inch slate running under Google's Android OS, most probably the Android 2.2 Froyo solution.

The tablet PC should sport two cameras, a 3.2-megapixel back photo snapper and a QVGA (320 x 240) camera on the front for video conferencing.

Chances are that the device would arrive in two flavors, including a 3G-capable and a 3G-less version, but we'll still have to wait for an official announcement to learn more on this.

However, the wait might not be that long, as Samsung is expected to announce the Galaxy Tab tablet at IFA in early September, where other makers around the world would also come up with their own similar devices.

Take a look at the video below and keep an eye on this space for additional pieces of info on this.
