Priced at $99.95 on contract

Canadian mobile-phone carrier Bell has just put on sale another appealing handset, the Samsung Galaxy. The new device is the first Android-based phone from the South Korean handset vendor, and comes with a wide range of capabilities towards the users in Canada. “The Samsung Galaxy features the innovative Android platform, providing seamless connection with Google applications like Gmail, Google Maps and YouTube, as well as access to 12,000 more in the Android Market,” is how Bell describes the device on its website.

The specifications list of the device, as showed on the wireless carrier's website, includes support for the newly launched HSPA network, with speeds that can top 7.2 Mbps, the Android 1.5 operating system from Google, a 3.2-inch AMOLED touchscreen display that supports up to 65K colors, as well as a 5.0-megapixel photo snapper that comes with flash, side-button access and video-recording capabilities.

When it comes to the features that the new phone can deliver to users, we can count threaded text, picture, and video messaging, MP3 player, support for email, HTML Mobile Browser, access to applications, games, wallpapers and ringtones, speakerphone, Bluetooth 2.0, 8 GB of internal memory, coupled with a microSDHC memory card slot that can support up to 32GB of additional storage space, and a Li-ion battery that can deliver up to 7.3 hours of talk time or up to 383 hours of standby time. The handset also comes with support for 850 / 1900 MHz HSPA / UMTS and 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz GSM / GPRS / EDGE frequencies, as well as with access to a wide range of Google services, including Gmail, Google Maps, Google Talk, Google Search, Google Calendar, YouTube, or the Android Market. The Canadian mobile-phone operator has the Samsung Galaxy listed on its website with a price tag of $99.95 upon the signing of a three-year contract agreement, but users can also purchase it free of contract, a case in which it will cost $449.95.
