Leading telecommunications solutions provider Samsung Electronics is set to showcase its latest advancements in Mobile WiMAX at CEATEC JAPAN 2010, in Tokyo, Japan.

According to the company, UQ Communications will demo a Samsung developed WiMAX 2 trial system based on IEEE 802.16m, which can deliver speeds of 330Mbps.

UQ Communications and Samsung plan on showing Full-HD 3D videos and 16 Full-HD videos on 4 LFD (Large Format Display) TVs simultaneously, all based on the new WiMAX 2 trial systems and device.

In order to showcase these capabilities, the two companies would use Samsung's commercial Mobile WiMAX base station, which is already rolled-out around the world via major wireless carriers.

“Technology never stops evolving. As the demand for data bandwidth and speed grows exponentially, technology has needed to respond,” Mr. Woonsub Kim, Executive Vice President and Head of the Telecommunication Systems Business of Samsung Electronics, commented.

“Mobile WiMAX opened up the era of Mobile broadband and is already component of many optimized solutions. We strongly believe WiMAX 2 will deliver even richer communication services to customers while unlocking a potential opportunity for service providers,” he continued.

WiMAX 2 is based on the IEEE 802.16m standard and offers more efficient, faster, and more converged data communications. The WiMAX 2 standards should be finalized by November 2010.

The standard comes with compatibility with existing Mobile WiMAX solutions and offer carriers the possibility to migrate to it via upgrading channel cards or their system software.

At the same time, the new WiMAX 2 systems can communicate with existing Mobile WiMAX devices at ease, so that users can continue take advantage of their devices.

Mr. Akio Nozaka, President of UQ Communications, said, "It is expected that the demands for Wireless Broadband will exponentially grow. In this regard, the recognition of real worth of Mobile WiMAX, a true 4G technology, will increase not only in Japan but also around the world.”

“Through this demonstration at CEATEC, we aim to show the excellences of new world by Mobile WiMAX, in cooperation with Samsung.”
