This technology will be available on the TV enabled phones

Samsung Electronics has announced today the election of the award-winning Nomadik multimedia application for processor technology, developed by the international semiconductors manufacturer STMicroelectronics. This new type of technology will be the one that will work in tandem with the processors of the new TV enabled mobile phones that Samsung will launch on the Korean market from now on. This type of phones are capable of receiving a number of TV and radio channels at the same time being capable of providing access for their users to data services like weather forecasts and travel information.

Due to this high functionality offered by this kind of handsets they are one of the top choices of the Korean customers and, after the Nomadik Stn881x series of multimedia application processors will be implemented in the future to be launched T-DMB enabled Samsung mobile phones the market studies show an even much higher share of the mobile market to be covered by this type of cellphones.

Jyrki Hannikainen, the General Manager for Application Processor Division at STMicroelectronics, has declared that his company is "proud to be associated with Samsung Mobile for the Nomadik family of application processors. Nomadik's unique architecture, which is based around audio and video accelerators, is perfectly matched to mobile TV applications, because it delivers an extremely high level of multimedia performance, combined with the low power consumption necessary for mobile products, and at a cost that can help manufacturers meets the aggressive price points in consumer markets."

The main thing contributing to the higher performance of the Nomadik equipped mobile phones is that this platform provides the handset with a multi-core distributed architecture that is based on the ARM92EJ-S core, so it is able to offer a superior audio, graphic and video experience to the other solution available at the moment on the market.

Furthermore, it also offers a reduced power consumption that has as a result a longer battery life for the cellphone and a much more simplified software development for mobile devices as smartphones, multimedia feature phones, PDAs, car entertainment systems and Internet appliances.
