It needs certification

There are quite a lot of First Person Shooter (FPS) titles set in modern times, but, among them, very few manage to attain a certain identity and create a fanbase around them. But one franchise managed to create a pretty big movement, by introducing some very innovative features and gameplay mechanics in the FPS genre.

This series, SOCOM, managed to gain quite a lot of praise for its PlayStation 2 iterations, the popular US Navy SEALs versions, but, its first PlayStation 3 title, SOCOM: Confrontation, didn't do very well. The game had quite a lot of faults, and, even though the developers at Slant Six Games did everything they could in order to solve some of these problems, a couple of very serious glitches still appeared, especially in the multiplayer aspect of the game, where server stability was always a problem.

But the team at Slant Six didn't give up, and it has just announced that it will launch the 1.30 patch for this game, which will solve quite a lot of problems and introduce some big revamps for the interface of the game. Sadly, even though the team is testing the final build of the patch, it still needs to go through the certification process, which will take some time, knowing that it’s the holiday season and the team at Sony is on vacation.

“Unfortunately, due to the Holidays the update will not be approved by SCE Format QA until early next year,” wrote Seth Luisi, a representative of Sony Computer Entertainment America, on the official website of the game. "Our QA staff will be here, testing the game over vacation, but the SCE QA teams which must approve the update before release will not. Barring any unforeseen issues, we are looking to release the SOCOM: Confrontation 1.30 update during the week of January 5 or January 12.”

So it seems that all the SOCOM fans will still have to wait a few weeks until the patch will finally be launched and, hopefully, the game will become remotely bug-free.
