At next year’s CES fair, Chinese SSD marker RunCore plans to introduce three new series of solid state drives that cover a wide range of market segments, starting with Ultrabooks and going to high-performance desktops.
The most advanced of these new SSDs will be released into the Xapear series, and
RunCore states that these are the first such drives in the world to feature RFID data encryption as well as support for Mobile Phone Encryption.
Using the RFID User access functionality, users can set aside a private space of the drive that can only be recognized and accessed when consumers utilize an authorized RFID tag.
As far as the Mobile Phone Encryption is concerned, this enables Xapear owners to check the status of their
SSD or activate the self-erase function by using a mobile phone with the binding SIM card through the GSM network.
The other two solid state drive series RunCore wants to introduce during the CES 2012 fair are the Falcon and Pro V units.
The first one of these will become RunCore’s high-end SSD line as it uses Marvell’s 6Gbps SATA controller to deliver high R/W IOPS (input.output operations per second) to its customers.
The same
Marvell IC used for these drives is also installed inside Intel’s performance oriented 510 series SSDs, aka Elm Crest, as well as in a series of other solid drives from the likes of Plextor, Corsair and recently Orico.
The V Pro series on the other hand was specially developed by RunCore to be installed inside Ultrabooks and other ultra-thin devices as it measures just 7mm (0.27-inches) in profile.
Despite their slim size, the drives will also be able to deliver quite some impressive performance as they are expected to deliver read/write sequential speeds of 540/500MB using the SATA 6Gbps interface.
More details aren’t available at this time, but that’s what CES 2012 is for.
