The game might be launched before the end of the year

Rumors about a new Pokemon video game for the Nintendo 3DS have been around for some time but there are some new hints that the Japanese publisher and hardware maker might be getting ready to soon make an official announcement.

Siliconera, a site that closely watches Pokemon and Japanese video games, has received a New Year’s card for developer The Pokemon Company, which talks about even more amazing game launches in 2012, meaning that more than five titles linked to Pokemon are set to be released in the coming 12 months.

At the same time fan site GoNintendo has managed to get a teaser page from the page of the CoroCoro Japanese magazine, with the phrase “What mystery is hidden in Kyurem?” and then goes to state that “Kyurem’s unseen power will be revealed.”

Kyurem seems to be a direct reference to the third Pokemon that is associated with the two, Zekrom and Reshiram, who already grace the covers of Pokemon Black & White.

Kyurem is also a grey Pokemon, which makes it perfect as the cover star for a game which seeks to combine the best elements of the two previous releases.

Nintendo and The Pokemon Company have a long history of releasing games that conflate the features of a pair of previous releases while also updating the graphics and the gameplay mechanics.

Nintendo needs to bring a Pokemon game to the Nintendo 3DS in order to keep up the sales momentum of the handheld and, with the Mario card played, this is one of the franchises that are big enough to push hardware sales up.

Nintendo might make an announcement about Pokemon Grey during this month or the next and aim for a late 2012 launch date, which would mean that the game would arrive in Japan almost two years since the release of Black & White.
