HTC Explorer is about to make its debut on the market, the latest rumors claim. It appears that the first country to get the Explorer will be India, on September 29.

Leaked last month under a different moniker, HTC Pico, the Explorer is expected to be launched in other Asian countries soon after the Indian release.

According to the guys over at BGR, HTC Explorer will be announced during a launch event held by HTC India on September 29, in New Delhi.

The launch event is advertised on HTC India's Facebook page, in the form of a contest that will award every winner with an invitation to an HTC party.

Although there is no mention of the HTC Explorer, it appears that the event will be hosted by HTC’s president of global sales and marketing, Jason Mackenzie, who will make the global announcement.

If the information will prove accurate, we should expect that HTC Explorer to be launched globally.

Even though India will be the first country to get the smartphone, Europe and North America will get the Explorer as well, possibly by the end of the year. It is also unclear if HTC will use different names depending on the regions and carriers.

HTC has yet to announce any details regarding the phone's specs sheet, but rumors point to a low-end hardware configuration.

In this regard, HTC Explorer is equipped with a low performance 600 MHz processor and a 3.2-inch HVGA capacitive touchscreen display with 320 x 480 pixels resolution.

In addition, the smartphone sports a 5-megapixel camera, as well as 384 MB of RAM and 512 MB of ROM.

The phone will be powered by Android 2.3.4 Gingebread with HTC Sense 3.5 user interface layered on top.

No word on the price yet, but the phone is certainly to be available for free from various carriers.
