14 DAY TRIAL // This week, during a big event, NVIDIA finally detailed its latest GeForce GTX 980M and 970M graphic cards destined for the new era of gaming laptops.
The high-end 980M arrives with 1536 CUDA cores, a clock of 1038MHz and a memory clock of 2500MHz and 8GB of GDDR5 memory. The 970M isn’t quite as impressive, but it’s still up there with the big boys featuring 1280 CUDA cores, GPU base clock of 924MHz, a memory clock of 2500MHz and 6GB of GDDR5 VRAM.
In the wake of NVIDIA’s big announcement a lot of mobile gaming solution, providers have subsequently introduced new products taking advantage of the new standard. Here’s a roundup of the products that have been announced so far.
Eurocom announced it was updating a series of high performance, fully upgradable laptops including the X3, X5, X7, X8 with either the GTX 970M and 980M GPUs single or in SLI.
The company is offering Intel Core i7 Extreme processor, up to 32GB of DDR3-1600 memory and different storage choices.
MAINGEAR
MAINGEAR was one of the very first companies to begin the assault of new gaming systems, by unveiling the NOMAD 17, a 17.3-inch laptop coming with a choice of either GTX 970M and 980M GPUs.
The company throws in up to 32GB of speedy DDR3-1600MHz memory and there are several storage solutions (different hard drive options or blazing fast RAID 0 and M.2 SSD).
MSI
MSI has updated several powerful notebook families, including the GS70 Stealth Pro (with GTX 970M), GS60 Ghost Pro (with GTX 970M), GT72 Dominator Pro (with GTX 980M), GT70 Dominator and GT60 Dominator.
Like most of the notebooks announced so far, the updated MSI ones offer Intel Core i7 power, 4K HDMI output, Sound Blaster Cinema and a bunch of MSI’s own technologies. The GS70 Stealth Pro also debuts in a Crimson Red coloring option.
Origin
Origin has quite a slew of new revamped products out too, in the form of the EON15-S and EON17-S which offer either NVIDIA GTX 970M or GTX 980M with 15.6-inch or 17.3-inch factors.
The Origin EON17-SLX is the most advanced, offering the possibility of adding two NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M video cards in SLI.
Last but not least, we have the EVO15-S gaming Ultrabook which works with NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 970M.
The laptops are sustained by the Intel Core i7 processor family (but there’s a dual-core Core i5 option too for EON15-S and EON17-S), which can work with up to 32GB of DDR3 memory.
CyberPOWER
CyberPOWER has unleashed the super thin all-new Fangbook Edge with NVIDIA GTX 970M. Other ingredients added to the mix include an Intel Core i7-4870HQ with Intel Pro Graphics 5200, which is there to take on the less demanding tasks.
One of the selling points of the Fangbook is that it is offered with a 4K display with 3840 x 2160 pixel resolution. A 1080p version is also available.
ASUS
ASUS ROG G751 family comprises four models, two taking advantage of NVIDIA GTX 980M with 4GB of GDDR5 VRAM and two of GTX 970M with 3GB of GDDR5 VRAM.
All models boast 17.3-inch form factors and offer anti-glare IPS screens with LED backlighting and 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution. The products rely on Intel Core i7 chips to sustain activity onboard.
