Research In Motion has just announced a new set of BlackBerry smartphones to the world, all running under the latest flavor of their mobile operating system, the BlackBerry 7 OS, but it seems that sales might not be going as well as anticipated.

In Canada, for example, wireless carriers have already started to offer special offers for some of these devices, so as to speed up their adoption.

One particular wireless carrier in the country, Rogers, has reportedly cut no less than $100 off two of the new BlackBerry 7 OS-powered devices, namely the Bold 9900 and Torch 9810, and is said to plan on having them on sale this way until the end of September.

Until September 30th, both mobile phones will be available for purchase for only $99 with the signing of a three-year contract agreement with the wireless carrier, an offer available only for new activations, it seems.

Moreover, the BlackBerry Playbook is said to have been included in the promotion as well, making it $100 cheaper until the end of September too.

Since both Bold 9900 and Torch 9810 are less than a month old, it comes as a surprise that Rogers had to cut their prices so fast.

Most probably, this is due to slow sales, and it remains to be seen if things will change in the near future or not.

The new Bold 9900 and Torch 9810 came to the market with fast 1.2GHz application processors inside, and with a wide range of other high-end features as well.

Both devices include microSD memory card slots with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space, as well as WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity capabilities, 3.5mm headphone jack, built-in GPS receiver, and the like.

They run under the BlackBerry 7 OS, which includes various new features and enhancements, such as a better web browser, better Universal search integration, and more.
