LG's first try on Android tablets, the Optimus Pad has just become cheaper for Rogers customers, as the carrier axed the tablet's suggested retail price for quite a lot

The Optimus Pad was released via Rogers last month and was available for purchase for $449.99 with a new three-year agreement or for $699.99 off-contract.

However, the carrier recently slashed the tablet's price options to $254.99 with a new three-year agreement or $549.99 without any plan.

Other price options offered by Rogers for the LG Optimus Pad include: $379.99 with a new two-year contract and $449.99 with a new one-year plan.

It is worth mentioning that LG's Optimus Pad has just become cheaper than Samsung's old 7-inch Galaxy that runs Android 2.2 Froyo.

The latter is now available for purchase from Rogers for no less than $624.99 no-term, which is $75 more expensive than the Optimus Pad's no-contract price.

The Optimus Pad is built around NVIDIA's powerful 1GHz Tegra 2 dual-core processor and the unique 8.9-inch display.

The tablet's 8.9-inch display offers native 1280 x 768 pixels resolution and 15:9 aspect ratio, which is perfect for a smooth visual experience on a tablet.

The device can capture images and video in 3D thanks to the dual 5 megapixel cameras with LED flash, as well as camcorder which can record 1080p@24fps (2D) and 720@30fps (3D) videos.

The Optimus Pad features video calling support and HDMI content mirroring for viewing on larger displays via HDMI cable, which is included in the sales package.

In addition, the device offers Wi-Fi plus internet access with download speeds up to 14.4 Mbps on Rogers' network and mobile hotspot capability for up to 8 Wi-Fi enabled devices.

Thanks to the Android 3.0 Honeycomb, the tablet enables rich web browsing with Adobe Flash 10.2 and HTML 5 support, faster performance, multi-pane email, live widgets, as well as quick access to enhanced Google Mobile Services (Gmail, Chrome browser, Maps, Google Talk, YouTube).
