Canadian carrier Rogers has recently dropped the price of the Acer Liquid e Android smartphone to $249.99 off-contract.

Although the device was introduced last year, Rogers new price tag puts the Liquid e in front of other newer Android devices included in the carrier's portfolio.

However, in light of the new avalanche of high-end Android smartphones customers might not be attracted by such an old device, even if the price is on the cheaper side.

Acer showcased the Liquid e phone at the 2010 Mobile World Congress, in Barcelona, and introduced it on the market in August 2010.

The device was initially delivered with Android 2.1 Eclair out-of-the-box, but the handset manufacturer rolled-out a Froyo update in November 2010.

The software update was made available for download via Acer's support website, for devices available for purchase in Canada via Fido and Rogers.

Bearing a standard bar form factor, the Liquid e comes with a 3.5-inches capacitive touchscreen with 262k colors support and 480 x 800 pixels resolution.

In addition to Android OS 2.2, the Liquid e runs Acer 3.0 user-friendly interface that improves the stock UI with new features and apps.

The device sports a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and video recording capabilities (VGA@20fps), as well as integrated GPS with A-GPS support.

Equipped with a single core 1 GHz QSD8250 Snapdragon processor manufactured by Qualcomm and complemented by an Adreno 200 GPU, the Liquid e features HSDPA (7.2 Mbps) and HSUPA (2.0 Mbps) support.

Acer Liquid e packs 512MB RAM, 512MB ROM, as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32 GB).

The smartphone is powered by a standard 1350 mAh Li-Ion battery that should provide up to 400 hours of standby time or up to 5 hours of talk time.

On related news, Acer has also released a limited Ferrari edition of the Liquid e, which was showcased at the 2011 Mobile World Congress, in Barcelona.
