Get ready for a Wild West shooter

The gaming industry is filled with great IPs (Intellectual Properties) consisting of games that are quite unique in their own genre, but, sadly, not a lot of them get the recognition and become as popular as they should.

Such is the case with Rockstar's Red Dead Revolver title, which took the tried-and-true sandbox adventure game recipe it had made for Grand Theft Auto and placed it in a Wild West setting. Filled with typical Western clichés found in a lot of movies from the 1960s, the game offered a great experience but didn't really have a lot of success in terms of sales.

But now it seems that the company will give the series a second chance as it has just announced the sequel, entitled Red Dead Redemption. Although not a lot of things have been revealed about it, the game promises to showcase the Wild West when the industrial revolution was slowly but surely taking it over. Typical gunfights and adventures ensue, as former outlaw John Marston struggles to find his path through the story of the game.

“The team at San Diego have massively exceeded our expectations with the sheer depth of experiences in Red Dead Redemption,” said Sam Houser, founder of Rockstar Games. “The seamless combination of breathtaking beauty and intense action, all woven together with strong plotlines in a massive vibrant, rural environment is mind-blowing. We think this game helps to push the limits of what an open-world gaming experience can be.”

The game will be using the Rockstar Advanced Games Engine (RAGE) which has been used in other successful titles like Grand Theft Auto IV and Midnight Club Los Angeles. So in terms of graphics we're in for some very stunning scenery and effects.

Hopefully the Wild West-themed shooter will have a great deal of success with the mainstream gamer audience and people will have a blast with it. Red Dead Redemption will gallop its way onto the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this fall, so until then, you'd better get reacquainted with the first title and probably watch some old John Wayne movies.
