It appears that the company has refused to give in to blackmail

A few days ago, we learned that the hackers of Rex Mundi were blackmailing Italian hosting company Websolutions.it. The hackers threatened that they would leak large amounts of data stolen from the firm’s servers unless Websolutions.it paid up.

Websolutions.it hasn’t responded to my inquiry to clarify the incident, but it’s clear that the company refused to give in to blackmail. The hackers have leaked 61,390 records allegedly stolen from the firm’s systems.

The leaked data, split up in four parts, consists of usernames, and clear text user passwords.

The data appears to have been obtained after querying a Websolutions.it user database, which indicates that the passwords are stored in clear text.

In June, Rex Mundi targeted Swiss hosting company Hoststar. They haven’t leaked any data from Hoststar, which might mean that they’ve sold it to a competitor, or the Swiss firm accepted to pay the ransom money.

Note. Since the passwords are in clear text, we will not be providing links to the leak.
