Songwriter Lou Reed is not to blame for Susan Boyle’s not performing for America’s Got Talent, it has emerged. Apparently, some “contractual” issues prevented her from moving ahead as planned.

News broke yesterday that the singing sensation discovered on Britain’s Got Talent flew to the US to perform on the finale of the US counterpart of the show.

As she was on her way to the studio, she learned that songwriter Lou Reed would not allow her to perform his song “Perfect Day” because, it was said, he was “not a fan.”

Susan reportedly left in tears and was still crying as she was waiting for her flight back home at LAX.

A spokesperson for the singer talked to OMG Yahoo to set the record straight – and revealed that Mr. Reed had nothing to do with what had happened.

“Susan was due to perform a chosen song from her new album ‘The Gift’ on America’s Got Talent in Los Angeles,” the official statement reads.

Therefore, “A Perfect Day” was not even up for discussion, which means Reed played no part in Susan’s teary departure.

“It is with real disappointment and regret that she has been unable to do so due to unforeseen circumstances relating to the song,” the statement further reads.

“Susan is very disappointed as she had been looking forward to it immensely. She is now on a plane heading back to London with a heavy heart.”

“Susan really looks forward to being able to perform her new songs very soon,” the same statement says.

Oddly enough, reps for the famous songwriter say that, while Susan was, indeed, supposed to sing “A Perfect Day,” he personally had nothing to do with preventing her from doing so.

“Reed did not turn down a request for SuBo to sing his classic song on the NBC talent competition stage,” OMG Yahoo writes.

“The reps claimed that due to a glitch, the song was not cleared for the American market in time for the show, something that had nothing to do with the former Velvet Underground member,” the e-zine also notes.

If she were to have performed the song in the UK, she would have had no problem doing so, Reed’s reps also say.
