In addition to the PwnageTool 4.3 update announced by the iPhone Dev Team over the past weekend, a new version of Redsn0w for both Mac and Windows is also available for those looking to jailbreak iOS 4.3.1 untethered.

While PwnageTool will only serve jailbreakers using a Macintosh computer, redsn0w does the job on both Macs and Windows PCs, which spells great news for those non-Apple fanboys who just happen to be fans of the iOS devices the company produces and sells.

iOS 4.3.1 security remained unaffected until recently when the first methods to break into Apple’s circumventions emerged.

However, it wasn’t until this past weekend that reliable, ‘untethered’ solutions to jailbreak the latest firmware emerged.

The 4.3.1 untether exploit comes courtesy of German security researcher, Stefan Esser, the iPhone Dev Team said in a post. Both redsn0w and PwnageTool now use it.

“Stefan has a long history of vulnerability research, and ironically his first contribution to the iPhone jailbreak community was improved security — last year he beat Apple to the punch and implemented ASLR for jailbroken iPhones with his ‘antid0te’ framework,” the group wrote.

“We’re happy to see that Stefan then turned his iPhone attention over to an untethered jailbreak exploit!” they said.

The devices supported by Redsn0w 0.9.6rc9 are dished out in the same post.

With the exception of the iPad 2, pretty much every iDevice known to man can be hacked using the tool.

The Apple TV (running the latest iOS for its own hardware) can only be jailbroken with PwnageTool, the Team said.

This article has a purely informational purpose and doesn't, in any way, suggest that you should hack your Apple device.

Using hacks may render your device unusable, or may reduce the quality of your experience employing the respective device.

If you choose to download and install jailbreak tools, you will do so at your own risk. Unlocking / jailbreaking your iPhone / iPod touch / iPad / Apple TV may violate your warranty or the EULA with Apple and / or your cellular-service provider.
