Red Dead Redemption was by far one of the most surprising titles of the year, and will soon see its action expanded thanks to a brand new DLC pack entitled Undead Nightmare and featuring one of the major trends in video gaming today, zombies.

Rockstar managed to strike gold with Red Dead Redemption, thanks to the huge open world, the tight story and the great Western setting of the game, a far cry from the traditional city landscapes seen in titles from the Grand Theft Auto franchise.

We've already seen three DLC packs revealed for the game, in the form of the free Outlaws to the End co-op pack, the Legends and Killers one and the recent Liars and Cheats pack, which added online poker and other activities.

Now, Rockstar is preparing to take the world of Red Dead Redemption into a whole new direction with the Undead Nightmare DLC, which will see the game's protagonist, John Marston, battle against Zombies throughout the world of the game.

The Undead Nightmare pack, unlike previous DLC, will focus more on the single-player campaign of RDR, and task John Marston with finding a cure for a new strain of disease that transforms regular humans or animals into blood thirsty zombies.

It will feature new gameplay mechanics, fresh weapons, and even a secret location that hasn't been detailed just yet by Rockstar.

As you can see from the screenshots below, the zombie plague hasn't spared anything from the RDR world, and even bears of cougars have received the treatment, not to mention the regular characters from the game.

You can also check out a trailer for Red Dead Redemption's new Undead Nightmare Pack, which says that it is "Coming very soon" for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
